Why choose Northern med?

I’ve fallen back in love with nursing, life, and myself!

"Travel nursing has changed my life. I too was burnt out. I love nursing, but sometimes a change in scenery, exceptional wages, amazing staff and travel nurses really make the difference. I’ve fallen back in love with nursing, life, and myself. I’ve met lifelong best friends all over Canada; fellow travel nurses and staff nurses. I’m in a community that lifts you up, supports you, and encourages you to reach your dreams. NMC is founded by nurses, made for nurses and encourages you to step outside your comfort zone and soar. I strongly recommend NMC! I’ve had the opportunity to nurse all over Canada, and worked in surgery, medicine, trauma, emergency, day surgery, rehab, and more. My critical thinking skills and experience have directly saved lives and that feels incredible. Travel nursing gives me the opportunity to work hard and also gives me the lifestyle to visit my family, fly back home for weddings, road trip to Nova Scotia, PEI, and New Brunswick and go to Boston and Florida all on contract. The greatest adventure is to live the life you’ve always dreamed of. What are you waiting for? Let’s go byyys” #DontBurnOutBurnBright

FAQs

Still have questions? We’ve got the answers.

Do you cover the accommodation and travel costs?

Absolutely. We cover all travel and accommodation costs, regardless of your destination. The method of travel and type of accommodation secured determines how expenses are reimbursed. In most cases, accommodations are provided by the facility, and when needed, our team supports arranging them directly. No matter the details, we support handling all the logistics so you can stay focused on your assignment and experience.

What do you offer for wages?

Compensation is competitive and varies by province, designation, and skillset. Many regions go beyond base pay by offering attractive bonuses, daily per diems, and additional incentives to reward your expertise and availability. For the most accurate and up-to-date wage details tailored to your qualifications and preferred locations, simply log in to our employee portal—your personalized resource for current rates and opportunities and location specific details.

What do I need to know about licensing?

All locations require either an active license or proof that your licensing process is underway before an assignment application can be considered. Starting early is important because timelines of securing licensing vary by province and depend on how many active licenses you hold. The good news? Most nurses find interprovincial licensing easier than expected—and our experienced team is here to guide you every step of the way. We provide resources, clear instructions, and personalized support to ensure you have everything you need to get started smoothly and avoid delays.

Can I apply to multiple locations for the same dates of availability?

Absolutely! We highly recommend exploring multiple opportunities to maximize your chances of securing a contract. Demand can fluctuate by province throughout the year and is sometimes unpredictable. By being prepared—having all required documents and licenses ready for applications across several locations—you significantly increase your chances of landing a contract within your desired timeframe.

How long of availability should I offer with my application?

Flexibility is key when it comes to availability. Aligning with the exact dates communicated by the facility greatly increases your chances of securing an accepted contract. By adapting to the location’s needs, you position yourself as the ideal candidate and maximize your opportunities. The longer your availability, the better your chances of securing your preferred contract. On average, most assignments run from 6 to 8 weeks. However, by remaining flexible and available for longer periods, you position yourself for more opportunities and greater success.

How far in advance should I be submitting an application?

The earlier, the better! Submitting your application in advance gives our team time to review and perfect every detail, ensuring we present an exceptional application on your behalf. This preparation process can take hours to a few days, and being ahead of the curve means we can act immediately when a new opportunity arises. We closely monitor needs by location, so early submission puts you in the best position to secure a contract as soon as openings are communicated.

When will I receive my contract details once secured?

Once your contract is confirmed, our health authority partners begin sharing the details in stages. The timing of these updates depends on how far your start date is from the date the contract was secured. Typically, travel arrangements, accommodations, and your schedule are provided 1–3 weeks before departure.

Can I travel with family/pets?

While requesting accommodations for pets or family may limit your contract options, we do have several locations where these needs can be met. However, availability cannot be guaranteed, as it depends on the specific location and housing arrangements. Our team will do everything possible to explore suitable options for you!

What documentation requirements should I prepare for prior to submitting an application?

The most critical documents for your application are provincial licensing, certifications relevant to your specialty, and an up-to-date resume reflecting your current experience. While documentation requirements can vary slightly by location, these core items are mandatory for all facilities we work with. Ensuring these are complete and current will help us process your application quickly and efficiently.

How do I apply to be a travel nurse and what do I need to apply?

Applying is simple! We require a minimum of 2 years experience in your specialty and active Canadian nursing experience. Start by completing our online application and submitting a resume that includes all your most recent and relevant nursing experience.

How long will it take to find out if my application has been accepted?

The timeline for a response can vary widely based on location, urgency, operational needs, and how long the opportunity remains open for submissions. In some cases, decisions are made within hours, while others may take up to a couple of weeks. Rest assured, we monitor updates closely, request updates for pending applications, and will notify you as soon as we receive confirmation.

Why choose travel nursing?

Travel nursing is more than a career—it’s a chance to make a real impact. Across Canada, many communities face critical staffing shortages, and your skills can help bridge that gap. By stepping into these roles, you’re not only supporting patients in need, but you’re also strengthening communities in regions that rely on experienced professionals like you to maintain facility operations. This is your opportunity to take your expertise where it’s needed most and create your own personal journey that combines purpose with adventure.

How long does onboarding take and is there a time limit for completion?

Most of the requirements for onboarding—such as licenses and certifications—should already be available to you, but some items, certain documentation may take longer to obtain. How quickly you secure these documents will determine how fast we can finalize your onboarding. We strongly recommend starting the process as soon as possible to avoid delays and ensure you don’t miss out on upcoming assignment opportunities. If you experience any delays in onboarding, that’s no problem—you can always pause and resume your onboarding whenever you’re ready.
